“The things you own end up owning you. It's only after you lose everything that you're free to do anything.” - Chuck Palahniuk
In this fast-paced modernity, people are trying to find satisfaction in wealth and other implements. Psychological researches have shown that when people get attached to materialism, they start initiating a lack of interest in values and sentiments. Materialism is another term for proving how dependent humans can get on items that do not hold as much significance. Materialism usually ends up leaving a negative mark on the well-being and associates their character with deficiencies like self-centeredness or unhappiness.
Some may ask, "how does materialism affect any individual's happiness?" Human studies suggest that materialistic people experience fewer positive emotions and satisfaction with life in comparison to their peers. They suffer from higher levels of anxiety and depression.
Philosophy theorizes that nothing except matter and its modifications concern the being which is under the possession of materialism. Materialism is closely associated with physicalism—the view that each one that exists is ultimately physical. Philosophical physicalism has evolved from materialism with the theories of the physical sciences to include more sophisticated notions of physicality than mere ordinary matter.
