Stop asking women to tone it down. Stop asking them to stay quiet.
We live in the 21st century. It is said to be a powerful and modernized time. But is it for all?
Most women are not chosen for leadership jobs as people think they are not fit to lead. Their salaries are not at par with men. They are looked at as weak and not capable. Even if they had been polite, gentle, and diplomatic, their demand for equality was not heard.
The case is worse in rural areas. Women are not allowed to study. They are not allowed to wear clothes of their choice. They are married off so that we can get dispensed of our so-called duties. They are neglected basic human rights. Shouldn't they have the same opportunities as others? Shouldn't they be allowed to live their lives on their terms?
We come across so many stories about women who were treated inhumanely. They are beaten in the middle of filled markets just because they did something to help fulfill their dreams. We feel sorry for them, but do we do anything to help them? We walk away thinking that it will be best for us not to get involved. Have our values dropped that much? Is our society that careless? We must do everything in our power to help our fellow women. If we don't bring each other up, who will?
Women have excelled in almost every field. You name it and women have proved themselves in it. Mary Kom, Indira Gandhi, Kalpana Chawla, Arunima Sinha, Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Bachendri Pal. They are all the first Indian women to excel in their respective fields. Could they have done that for our nation if their families did not allow them to do so? Their family members encouraged them and helped them through every step. They lost a lot of sweat and blood to make their dreams come true. But, the fruit of their hard work was the sweetest of them all.
We have all heard of the infamous stories of the Indian female wrestlers - Geeta and Babita Phogat. They got the opportunity to prove themselves. Their father fought with the world to give them the platform he knew they deserved. They excelled in their field and brought fame and success to our country.
So, don't ask a girl to tone it down. Ask her to tone it up! Scream her mind! Make her mark! Just help her do so. She will never let you down.
